My name is Rebecca Corbett, and I am a consumer at Antioch Alive. Besides being a consumer at the program, I am also a self-advocate, CAC Secretary, and a college student. Being involved in the Consumer Action Committee has made me a stronger person, less shy than I was when I was younger, and express what I’m feeling in a positive way. I have been able to solve my toughest issues which involve my personal life, program, group home, work, and community-based issues(travel, traffic, school), as well as help others deal with their issues.
Many of events that I’ve been a part of are: Being the MC for the East Bay Legislative Coalition Town Halls for several years- being involved with the videos that were part of the Town Halls.Being an MC for some of our many Sacramento/Concord rallies Went to the People’s First Conference twice, both times being in charge of the CAC/Project Seed booth (at the first conference, I won a raffle basket, Attended the CDSA conference in Sacramento, where we talked to the legislators about the issues that, those with Developmental Disabilities, are facing; and how they can help us help them Talked to many legislators, from different districts, during their Town Halls/City Hall meetings Helped my family, and fellow CAC members, express their feelings when they thought issues were becoming a struggle (whether bosses at work or program, their care providers weren’t listening to them) Advocating for myself when it came to: unfair workers at stores, bus drivers being late, coworkers giving me problems, program staff not doing their job I have many advocacy awards from our local politicians, and fellowAdvocacy-Inspired Program staff
